Summer graduated in August 2008 with her PhD in Counseling Psychology. Throughout training, she was able to gain experiences working with children, adolescents, adults, families, couples, and groups. She then worked at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in their Counseling and Psychological Services.
During Summer’s time at UNL, she provided counseling to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students (typically ages 17-55) on a wide variety of concerns and severity. She gained extensive experience performing crisis intervention, consultation, outreach, and prevention in addition to maintaining active and consistent clinical work. The severity ranged from outpatient therapy to facilitating hospitalizations. Summer has experience working with a range of issues from college adjustment to managing severe and persistent mental health concerns.
Summer felt privileged to serve on the Eating Disorders Treatment Team that provided comprehensive care with an interdisciplinary staff at the university’s health center and appreciates the quality of comprehensive care. She also had unique opportunities to coordinate services for international students, students going abroad, and participate in the cultural competence committee.
In addition to her clinical opportunities, she served as the Doctoral Training Coordinator providing training and supervision to graduate students and predoctoral interns.
Summer focuses on individual, family, and couples work. She works with clients of all ages because she appreciates the life span and all the change that it brings. Summer welcomes the privilege to be a part of your journey toward change.
